St Antony's College is pleased to announce the formal recognition of Miles Larmer as Professor of African History of the University of Oxford.

Miles has been a Governing Body Fellow of St Antony’s since 2013. He has published extensively on the political and social history of southern-central Africa in general and Zambia in particular, focusing on African nationalism, labour and social movements, and the relationship between mining and political change.  His most recent book, exploring the political and military history of the DR Congo and co-authored with Erik Kennes, is The Katangese Gendarmes and War in Central Africa: Fighting their way home, published by Indiana University Press in 2016. He is currently the Principal Investigator on an ERC-funded project 'Comparing the Copperbelt' (http://copperbelt.history.ox.ac.uk/).
