Founders Building

College Accommodation

The majority of accommodation is on site with 50 en-suite bed-sitting rooms in the Founder's Building. Further rooms are located in converted Victorian houses with communal kitchens and bathrooms; some of these rooms have washbasins. All rooms are furnished to a high standard; the average room includes: a single bed with mattress cover, duvet and pillows (students provide their own linen), desk and chair, easy chair, small table, book shelving, desk light and wardrobe space

The kitchens have cupboard space for students to store food etc; the College provides pots, pans, crockery and cutlery. You may wish to bring your own utensils but remember that storage space is limited! Fridges, freezers, a microwave, kettle and toaster are also provided in the kitchen of each house or accommodation block.

Any maintenance problems within College Accommodation should be reported in the Maintenance Book which is kept at the Lodge, or using the on-line form (College network only).

Some rooms have a BT or cable connection; each student is responsible for the connection charge and the telephone bill. The rooms on site have Ethernet connection.

The rooms vary in size and this is reflected in the weekly rent.

Views of typical rooms may be seen by clicking the appropriate Room Grade : Please note that all views show rooms complete with bedding, but this should be be provided ( apart from the duvet and pillow) by the individual tenant.

The rents for the academic year 2011/2012 are as follows:

Room Grade Weekly Rent
En-suite £152.53 (Founder's Building only)
A+ £145.04
A £129.64
B £117.18
C £108.64
D £95.48

The College provides a guarantee of single accommodation for all 1st-year students for 1 year. This is subject to the following qualifying criteria:

·   The student is new to Oxford;
·   The student is not normally resident within 26 miles of Oxford;
·   The student is financially cleared for entry to College prior to
    the cut-off date for accommodation given in the offer letter.

A ballot is held in early August to determine the allocation of the rooms. Every effort is made to allocate students the category they request on the Accommodation Application Form, but that is not always possible. In most cases an alternative category is offered. If you do not wish to be considered for a particular category, you must state this on the Accommodation Application Form.

The College has a limited number of flats. These are fully furnished to a high standard and current weekly rents for junior members are between £210.56 and £412.72 per week.

All rents are reviewed annually in August.

Help in finding accommodation is also provided by the University Accommodation Office. Further information is available at http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/accommodation/graduate/

Students intending to apply for College accommodation should read the College's Accommodation Licence and Tenancy Agreement.
