Abtract: The Berlin Process, launched in 2014, is an initiative aimed at maintaining the momentum of European integration in the Western Balkans. It concentrates in particular on economic connectivity, regional cooperation, civil society development and security (including the imposition of the rule of law, and the fight against corruption and organised crime). This year the UK is hosting the annual Summit. The Slovene Minister, State Secretary Iztok Mirosic, will look at the fragile region of Western Balkans, against the background of wider developments in the EU and the issue of migration, taking into consideration also the impact coming from elsewhere in the world (USA, Russia, Turkey, China). He will address the situation role of Slovenia and also of the UK

Iztok Mirošič is State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia. In this role he is responsible for European Affairs, bilateral political relations with European countries, Economic Diplomacy, Public Diplomacy and International Cooperation in Culture. State Secretary Mirošič is author of a number of articles and had been, prior to the current position, among others Deputy Foreign Minister, the Foreign Policy and EU Adviser to the Prime Minister. He served as the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to the United Kingdom, Italy, Malta, San Marino, Tunisia, Libya and was Slovenia's Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), World Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and to the World Food Programme (WFP). He is also a veteran of the war for Slovenian independence and one of the founders of the society Slovenian Committee on NATO.
