Scott Mainwaring is the Eugene and Helen Conley Professor of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame, where he previously directed the Kellogg Institute for International Studies. His research interests include democratic institutions and democratization; political parties and party systems; and the Catholic Church in Latin America. Mainwaring was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2010. His book with Aníbal Pérez-Liñán, Democracies and Dictatorships in Latin America: Emergence, Survival, and Fall has just been released by Cambridge University Press.
