A talk with Senator Claudia López Hernández

Colombian Senator for the ‘Partido Alianza Verde’ (Green Alliance Party)

Senator Lopez has a BA in Finance, Government and International Relations from the Universidad Externado de Colombia, Master in Public Administration and Urban Policy from Columbia University, USA. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Political Science at Northwestern University, USA., and she was a World Fellow at Yale University in 2009.

She was elected to the Senate of the Republic of Colombia for the period 2014-2108 a representative of the ‘Alianza Verde’ (Green Alliance Party). She was an active participant in the student movement that led to the 1991 constitutional reform process. Ms Lopez helped found the Electoral Observatory Mission, a coalition of NGO’s and journalists that monitors political and electoral processes in Colombia. As a researcher she has studied about illegal groups, armed conflict, human rights regional development, amongst others.

In addition, Senator Lopez has worked as a consultant for the United Nations and as a researcher and political analyst for diverse Colombian media.
