Nomination Procedure:

Nomination procedure is as followers and varies depends on what you wish to stand for.
If you wish run for:-
1)    An Executive position – you will need to be proposed and seconded by two separate third parties. You cannot propose or second your own nomination for these positions!
2)    An Officer or Representative position – you will need both a proposer and a seconder, either of which may be yourself.
All nominations should be composed by the proposer with details of the nominee, their mail address and the position they wish to run for. Please forward to the seconder for endorsement (‘I second’ – is fine). From there, please forward to the Returning Officer at: sophia.mann_at_sant.ox.ac.uk

Where nominations and seconds are made by third parties, I will confirm with the nominee if they choose to accept and run in the election or not. There will be no surprises for the nominees.

All nominations received (by 20.00 Monday of Week 7) will be posted on the JCR notice board.

Campaigning:

I don’t want to overload you with details of the conditions of campaigning (numbers of posters etc), and will mail these out on receipt of nominations to the candidates. However, in the meantime these can be viewed in the constitution and please note that:

‘Posters and pamphlets may be distributed from the closing of Nominations until midnight of the day preceding Polling Day.’ And not before!

Any breaches of constitutionally defined rules will be subject to final authority of the returning officer and may result in exclusion from the election.

Hustings:

Hustings for these elected posts shall be held on Wednesday of Seventh Week: 25th November.

During these proceeding nominees will be required to give a speech on their appropriateness for the position(s) they are nominated for, and questions will be taken from the floor. Again more details on this can be seen in the constitution (http://www.sant.ox.ac.uk/gcr/gcr_constitution.pdf) and will be mailed out with the submission of nominations.

Well honestly student politics is a great way to involve yourself in the college, achieve a great deal and also give something back to a community that you might be surprised to learn, has already given a lot to you... :o)

Message from the 2009 GCR Committee

Welcome to St Antony's College GCR Website!

Autumn 2009 is upon us, and the GCR Committee has been working hard over the last few weeks in anticipation of the arrival of the 150-odd new students who are entering the college as I write. We have a great series of 'bops', parties, movie nights and trips (among other things) planned for the coming few months — check out our events page.

But maintaining a vibrant college social life is not all the GCR Committee does. The GCR is there as both a first port of call for — and as the representative of — the St Antony's student body. We provide support for welfare and academic issues, and coordinate other areas of student activity, such as social action, recycling, and sports and society funding.

Please use this website to find any information you might need, for instance for accessing the term card, finding out details of how to apply for GCR funding for a sport of society, or to find the contact emails of the various representatives of the GCR, who all have profiles on this website. We look forward to hearing from you, no matter the issue.

Lastly, the new 2009 GCR Committee would like to say a big thank you to members of the current 2009 committee who moved on over the summer. To Dawn Berry, formerly VP Welfare, we wish her all the best as she takes up the position of Junior Dean at University College. To Rory Brown, formerly Social Secretary and the guy we all relied on to lift anything heavier than a Buick, we wish him all the best as he begins work for the Turquoise Mountain Foundation in Kabul, Afghanistan. To Will Attwell, former LGBTQA officer, all the best back in South Africa. And to Joe Rowsell, formerly Sports Officer, we wish him all the best wherever he is, whatever he is doing, which is probably something unexpected, somewhere mysterious.
