Carpenter Scholes Photo Gallery: Persia c1890s

The images in this gallery are from the Carpenter Scholes Collection GB165-0371. The original images are albumen prints of Persia including studio portraits and street scenes some of which are of Tehran, as well as roads and bridges in the 1890s.

Carpenter Scholes was a civil engineer who carried out his construction work in England, New Zealand and Persia and was in Persia in the 1890s. It is not clear whether Carpenter Scholes was the photographer of these albumen prints, although this is unlikely for the studio portraits.
