Omar Shahid Hamid has served with the Karachi Police for twelve years. During his service, he has been actively targeted by various terrorist groups and organisations. He was wounded in the line of duty and his office was bombed by the Taliban in 2010. He has Masters in Criminal Justice Policy from the LSE and Masters in Law from UCL and undergraduate in Law at Kent.

Bennett-Jones has won several awards and has been a presenter of many programmes on BBC World Service. He has written for several British newspapers, including The Guardian, Financial Times and The Independent, as well as the London Review of Books. His history of Pakistan: Pakistan: Eye of the Storm, went into a third edition in 2010. In 2012, he was a visiting Ferris Professor of Journalism at Princeton University.
