EU and US urged to reaffirm commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina

EU and US urged to reaffirm commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina

15 November 2015

In an open letter addressed to EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn, the US Secretary of State John Kerry, and the EU Foreign and Affairs Council, a number of academics and political analysts working on Bosnia and Herzegovina 'appeal to the European Union and the US to strengthen their commitment to the European future of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to adopt a firm approach towards spoilers of the reform process and to jointly use their leverage potential in a coordinated manner’.

The letter is a reaction to the EU progress report published on 10 November as well as the general political, economic, and social situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina that has been steadily deteriorating, reaching alarming levels in the past. It was co-authored by SEESOX members Jessie Hronesova, David Madden, and Adis Merdzanovic as well as local political analyst and journalist Srecko Latal from Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) and the Social Overview Service (SOS); numerous experts on the country co-signed it.
