‘What is South Asia’ Workshop 2016: Locating the Region in Social Sciences

South Asia has long occupied academic imagination in social sciences. Researchers have studied a range of topics including history, politics, and economy to culture, language, art, and media. These studies have, undoubtedly, contributed to our understanding of South Asia. However, it is yet to be understood if the study of this region contribute any distinct perspectives in social sciences? What does the focus on South Asia bring to social sciences? This workshop proposes to explore the specific contribution of South Asia, as a region, to advance our understanding of society and the discipline of social sciences.
