Dr. Carlos A. Pérez Ricart
I am a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Contemporary History and Public Policy of Mexico at the University of Oxford, as well as a member of both the History Faculty and the Latin American Centre (LAC). I am attached, as an Academic Visitor, to St Antony’s College. My responsibilities at Oxford are three-fold: to research, to teach, and to encourage relations between Oxford and Mexican universities.
I hold a Ph.D in Political Science and in Latin American Studies from a Comparative and Transregional Perspective at the Freie Universität Berlin and have a degree in International Relations of El Colegio de México. My PhD thesis addressed the activities of law enforcement agencies in the United States and the transnational construction of the war on drugs in Mexico between 1938 and 1978.
In 2016, I worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Freie Universität Berlin and as a lecturer in the Master´s programme of the Institute for Latin American Studies. My general research and teaching interests include the relationship between Mexico and the United States, security and organized crime, drug policies, militarisation, state violence and state formation.
My research has been published (or is forthcoming) in journals such as Foro Internacional, Global Governance, Kriminologisches Journal, Revista Colombiana de Sociología and Critical Reviews on Latin American Research. I recently coedited the book Después de Ayotzinapa: Crimen Organizado, Sociedad y Estado en México (2017, Tranvía Verlag).
