Dr Nandini Gooptu

Nandini Gooptu, BA (Calcutta), PhD (Cambridge), University Reader in South Asian Studies, Faculty Fellow (elected 1993) and Head of the Department of International Development (Queen Elizabeth House).

She teaches History and Politics and her research is on twentieth-century South Asia. Her interests include urban poverty and development; sectarian, nationalist and democratic politics; political ideologies and norms; globalization, work and labour.

Her book entitled The Politics of the Urban Poor in Early Twentieth-Century India was published by Cambridge University Press in July 2001 (paperback edition in 2004).
