Dr Javier Morales is a Senior Associate Member of St Antony's College, where he is affiliated to the Russian and Eurasian Studies Centre. His research in Oxford is supported by a postdoctoral mobility grant (2010-12) from the Spanish Ministry of Education. He began his academic career at Complutense University of Madrid, where he joined the Research Unit on International Security and Cooperation (UNISCI) in 2002, and later became a Predoctoral Fellow of the Department of International Studies (2004-08). After defending his dissertation he moved to Carlos III University of Madrid, as a Postdoctoral Fellow (2009-10). He holds a BA/MA in Political Science, a Diploma of Advanced Studies (MPhil) and a PhD in International Relations (cum laude) from Complutense University; as well as a MA in Peace, Security and Defence from the IUGM. He has been a short-term visiting researcher at MGIMO University in Moscow, the Carnegie Moscow Center and the University of Birmingham. His research is focused on Russian foreign and security policy in the post-Soviet period, especially with regard to the EU, NATO and the United States. He is the author of a number of articles and book chapters in English and Spanish, and is currently writing a book on Russia's security relations with the West during the Putin and Medvedev presidencies.
