Dr Mihoko Kato is a Senior Associate Member of St. Antony’s College. She is affiliated to the Russian and Eurasian Studies Centre under the auspices of the International Training Programme Fellowship, which is organized by the Slavic Research Centre, Hokkaido University. Dr Kato received her MA and PhD (in History and Area Studies) at Hokkaido University. She also visited the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry for Foreign Affairs (Sep. 2007 – Sep. 2008) as a research fellow of the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (DC2). In her dissertation, she examines Russia’s strategy toward APEC, ASEAN meetings, EAS and the Six-Party talks on the North Korean nuclear programme, in comparison with Russia’s multilateral engagement at global and transatlantic levels. Her current research interests are in Russia’s foreign policy toward the Asia-Pacific region from the end of the Cold War to today. In particular, she focuses on Russian multilateralism in this region as a means of complementing Russia’s limited bilateral relations with major regional powers, pursuing ‘Great Power’ status, and also developing its Far Eastern region. Her publications include: “Russia’s Foreign Policy toward the Asia-Pacific Region:
