Seminar/LecturesThe main weekly event is the seminar which has been held every Monday at 5 p.m. in term-time since the early 1950s. Please view the current seminar / lecture lists. The College has produced an archive of some previous Conferences/Workshops/Lectures. Most of the speakers are from outside the College, frequently from outside Britain, but they include also Fellows of the College, other Oxford specialists and advanced doctoral students. There are also numerous ad hoc seminars which take advantage of the presence in Britain of outstanding figures from the countries of the world we study. Two of the most distinguished such visitors were Presidents Gorbachev and Havel. Others have included Dr Petr Aven, President of Alfa Bank; Dr Vladimir Llisin, President of the Novolipetsk Iron and Steel Corporation; Dr Vladimir Lukin, Deputy Speaker of the Russian State Duma; Mr Boris Nemtsov, former First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia; Mr Aleksandr Nikolaevich Yakovlev, leading politician of the perestroika era; and Mr Grigory Yavlinsky, leader of the Russian political party, Yabloko. |
