INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
Whose crisis? Greece's politics, economics and society in an era of uncertainty
27 & 28 May, 2011
Nissan Lecture Theatre, St Antony’s College, University of Oxford
The conference addressed key aspects of the current Greek crisis through panel discussions and individual session presentations with international experts drawn from academia, and the public and private sectors. Specifically the conference analysed the main causes of the crisis, its domestic significance, and regional consequences.
Throughout, we asked whether, and how, the current crisis can serve as an opportunity for meaningful reform in Greece, and what lessons can be drawn for other countries in Europe and beyond.
Finally, we looked critically at the European dimension of the crisis, including the value and shortcomings in the EU's response and alternative policy scenarios both at Greek, EU and global levels.
