PPE gift from Tsinghua University and Chenxing Education Foundation

8 June 2020

St Antony’s wishes to express its sincere thanks to the wonderful fellows at the Institute of International and Area Studies, Tsinghua University and the Chenxing Education Foundation, who - in recognition of the close relationship which it has forged with the College in recent times - have made a very major donation to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and other local medical institutions in the UK to support the fight against the Coronavirus.

The John Radcliffe Hospital took delivery last week of 5,250 medical respirators, 500 white medical protective suits, 500 instant hand sanitiser kits, and 1,000 disinfectant kits as well as four ventilators which have been made available to whichever establishment in the UK currently needs them the most. These were sourced and sent directly from China through the good offices of Madame Jing Zhang, the Associate Director of the Institute of International and Area Studies, to whom the College wishes particularly to express its thanks.

St Antony’s signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute of International and Area Studies at Tsinghua University in 2019 – following a very successful academic meeting earlier in the year in Beijing - and the first two postdoctoral students from Tsinghua arrived to take up their places at the College in early 2020. This signalled the beginning of what we hope will be a long and fruitful relationship between our two institutions.’
