On 8 June, Dr Richard Haass (DPhil Politics 1973) will discuss his new book, The Bill of Obligations: The Ten Habits of Good Citizens.
Richard Haass is in his twentieth year as president of the Council on Foreign Relations. He previously served in the State Department under Presidents George W. Bush and Ronald Reagan, at the White House under George H.W. Bush, and the Pentagon during the Carter administration. He was US envoy to the Cyprus negotiations and the Northern Ireland peace process, and after 9/11 was US coordinator for the future of Afghanistan. Dr Haass is the author or editor of fourteen books on American foreign policy and one book on management. A Rhodes Scholar, Dr. Haass holds a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College, a DPhil from St Antony’s College, Oxford University, and numerous honorary degrees. He is as well the recipient of the State Department's Distinguished Honor Award, the Presidential Citizens Medal, and the Tipperary International Peace Award.

- 6pm – 7.00pm: Arrival + drink
- 7pm – 7.45pm: Talk + Q&A by Dr Richard Haass
- 7.45pm – 8.00pm: College update by the Warden
- 8.00pm – 9.30pm: Dinner
- Dress code: Business
- Venue: Jing Fong Restaurant (202 Centre St, New York, NY 10013)
- The cost for dinner is $80 per person
- Guests are welcome to join
