Aslı Töre is a research assistant at SEESOX working on the ‘Migration Diplomacy and Turkish-EU relations’ project of the Oxford-Berlin Research Partnership.
She has graduated from the American Robert College High School in Istanbul, Turkey in 2014. She received her BA from Koç University in Istanbul, completing the double major program in Sociology and Psychology, and the track certificate program on Film & Video in 2018. During her undergraduate studies, she worked as a research assistant in various projects on sociology of education and social cognitive psychology, and completed an exchange program at UCLA. In 2019, she attended the “Visual Ethnography of Cityscapes” program in Athens, Greece that was organized in collaboration with the University of Leiden, the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the VU University of Amsterdam. She also worked as a Turkish teacher and art-therapy assistant at a community centre dedicated to helping displaced Syrian families in Istanbul.
She recently received her MSc in Social Anthropology from St Antony’s College at the University of Oxford. She was the Social Secretary in St Antony’s College’s Graduate Common Room. Her MSc dissertation focused on an anthropological rethinking of the literature on refugee children’s play behaviour and play-therapy. Currently, she also works as an interpreter at counselling sessions of refugees and asylum-seekers at Refugee Resource, Oxford.
