St Antony’s receives a generous grant from the Sino-British Fellowship Trust (SBFT), established by the late Dr Elizabeth Frankland Moore. The grants are available to academic staff and postgraduate Students at St Antony’s College to make travel and research visits to China with preference being given where possible to research with an environmental focus.

Grant information

The grants are given by the Sino-British Fellowship Trust to eligible members of St Antony’s College and are administered on its behalf by the Asian Studies Centre. Grant applications are normally considered by a committee of the Asian Studies Centre, which evaluates and decides on applications shortly after the deadline for submissions (see below).

Award value

The maximum value for an individual grant is normally £2,500, although this upper limit may be waived in exceptional cases.


Applications need to be submitted in writing to the Asian Studies Centre ( and should include a detailed proposal of the project (max. 500 words), sources available in China, a budget and a letter of support from your supervisor (for student applicants) confirming the proposed activity supports your studies. If awarded then a short report on the project will be expected on return.


The closing date for applications is the end of Hillary Term, March 9, 2019.
Awards will be announced at the beginning of Trinity Term.
