Europe at Sea: Film Screening and Discussion
Join The Wake Up Foundation, the European Studies Centre at St Antony's College and the University of Oxford's Department of Politics and International Relations for a screening of Europe At Sea: Mogherini's Masterplan, a hard-hitting documentary on EU top diplomat Federica Mogherini's work to steer Europe on a new course.
Embedded in EU's military and civilian missions in the Southern Mediterranean Sea and Niger, the film-makers reveal the background to Europe's response to mounting, multifaceted crises. Produced by Arte Geie and SVT, Europe at Sea brings you on a thought-provoking rollercoaster, at the end of which you are left with some inconvenient truths and one urgent question: do Europeans today understand the magnitude of the challenges surrounding them?
Director Annalisa Piras had exclusive access to the EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini over two years of upheaval, when Europe was confronted by a changing geopolitical landscape and pressing migration and security challenges. Forbes recently declared Federica Mogherini the fifth most powerful woman in politics in the world in 2017, but does she have the means to make a difference?
The screening will be introduced by Andrea Ruggeri (Department of Politics and International Studies, University of Oxford), and followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with:
- Annalisa Piras (Director and Producer, co-founder and Director of The Wake Up Foundation)
- Bill Emmott (Author, Chairman of The Wake Up Foundation)
- Hartmut Mayer (Director of the European Studies Centre, St Antony's)

- Kalypso Nicolaïdis (Director of Centre of International Studies and Fellow of St Antony's College, Oxford)
