Panayotis Tsakonas is Professor of International Relations, Security Studies and Foreign Policy Analysis at the Department of Mediterranean Studies, University of the Aegean, Greece, where he has served as Head of the Department and Director of the MSc Program: “Political, Economic and International Relations in the Mediterranean”.

He studied political science, international relations and security studies at the Panteion University of Athens and Reading University, U.K. He has been Research Fellow at the Institute of International Relations (I.I.R.), Research Associate at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP), NATO Research Fellow, Fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, Harvard University (1998-99), and Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the Macmillan Center for International and Area Studies, Yale University (2003). He has also served as Special Advisor at the Hellenic Ministries of National Defense and Foreign Affairs (1996-2003) and a scientific and executive board member of various academic and civic organizations, including the Hellenic Center for European Studies, the Center for Security Studies, the Hellenic Academy of National Security and the "Euro-Mediterranean University"/member of the Senate.
