The Singing Revolution was Estonia’s dramatic, non-violent struggle for independence from the USSR. Hundreds of thousands gathered in public to sing forbidden patriotic songs and to cheer demands for liberty. This moving film documents how a people helped topple an empire while singing their way to freedom.

The screening will be followed by a roundtable discussion.

Mr Viljar Lubi, Ambassador of Estonia to the UK; Paul Betts, Professor of Modern European History, St Antony's College, Oxford; Mart Kuldkepp, Associate Professor, School of European Languages, Culture, and Society, University College London; Anniki Mikkelsaar, MPhil Candidate, Linacre College, Oxford

Convenor:  Zbigniew Wojnowski, Associate Professor of Soviet History, St Antony's College, Oxford
