A year after Russia launched a war against Ukraine and the established Global Order, the strategic landscape in Europe has changed beyond recognition. The Dahrendorf Programme at the European Studies Centre offers a special afternoon event on Europe's new strategic environment with panellists from History and International Relations. The event builds on the previous work and phases of the programme. How significant is the current critical juncture in a historical perspective? Why did so many decision makers in Europe fundamentally misread its geo-strategic context in the last decades? What does the Russian war against Ukraine mean for Europe's future geopolitical place in a fluid global order? Does Europe have the political will and the technical and economic means to adjust to the new challenge? Where does Europe stand within the transatlantic environment and how united will Europe and the West remain in and after this crisis? And what can we learn from history when reflecting on potential post-conflict arrangements after this war?
