Mr Jonathan Scheele was the ESC Visiting Fellow for 2012/2014 and is a SEESOX Research Associate. Jonathan served as a European Commission official from 1974 until 2012; his last posting before his retirement was as Head of the European Commission’s Representation in the UK. During his time in the Commission, Jonathan dealt with a wide range of issues, including industrial policy, trade policy, international relations, enlargement and transport. From 2001 to 2006, Jonathan was Head of the European Commission’s Delegation in Romania and, from 2007 to 2010, Director for transport infrastructure policy and financing. Jonathan held the first EU Visiting Fellowship at St Antony’s in 2009/2010. His research interests cover developments in the Balkans and he will be carrying out a comparative study of Romania’s and Poland’s experiences in utilising the potential offered by their accession to the EU. Jonathan will also be researching on the UK’s long term relationship with the EU.
