Professor Knick Harley
Professor Knick Harley was Professor of Economic History at St Antony's College and was elected to an Emeritus Fellowship of the College in 2011.
His research interests revolve around the interactions between the emergence of modern economic growth and the globalisation of the world economy between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries. His published research includes extensive work on the trade and industrialisation in the British Industrial Revolution and in the industrialisation of the United States. In addition, he has published extensively on the impact of technology on transportation in the late nineteenth century. This research investigates the effects that growing trade had on both the nature of industrial structure and on the rise of international services in the core economies (particularly Britain) and on the geographical expansion of periphery economies into continental interiors.
