Maintenance Technician

We have a full-time opportunity for someone will all-round maintenance skills, to carry out a range of general maintenance, repairs and renewals. Working across all disciplines, including internal and external decorating and minor plumbing and electrical work, you will ensure all reported maintenance complaints and failures are responded to efficiently and effectively.  Work will be indoors or outdoors at any time of the year and you will work in areas at heights, in plant rooms and areas where access is restricted. This is a permanent, full-time post. The working hours are 35 hours per week, plus an unpaid hour for lunch each day, to be worked over any 5 days out of 7. This will usually be Mondays to Fridays but it will occasionally include weekend days too. The start and finish times will be agreed with the post-holder.

The successful candidate will have previous experience in a similar role and be able to work well as part of a small team. A working knowledge of health and safety policies and practices (including COSHH, Working at Height, and manual handling) and an awareness of the statutory ACOPs and an ability to work within their remits is essential. You will also need good IT skills, to be able to use our online maintenance reporting tool, as well as strong organisational skills and an ability to correctly prioritise work. You will have a flexible approach to the varying tasks and experience of dealing with contractors. It will be important that you are a good communicator with an empathetic nature, to be able to provide good customer service to our College members. A previous electrical or mechanical position, and / or an interest in incorporating sustainable options and solutions would be advantageous.

The Maintenance Technician will be paid on the University grade 4 scale, currently £25,138 – £28,759 gross per annum.
