Professorship of African Studies

The Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA) intend to appoint the Professorship of African Studies with effect from 1 October 2025 or as soon as thereafter.

The Professor of African Studies will be an academic leader who will be central to further development of the African Studies Centre within OSGA. In particular, the University seeks scholars whose methodological approach and disciplinary orientation augments existing strengths of the African Studies Centre. The University is also keen to expand the existing geographic and regional specialisms of the African Studies Centre.

You will be a scholar who has a broad-ranging approach to any related aspect of African Studies, with any regional expertise in sub-Saharan Africa. Applicants may come from any relevant discipline, including Anthropology, Sociology, Cultural Studies, Development Studies, Religious Studies, History, Human Geography, International Relations, Politics, Public Policy, Economics, Law and Public Health. You will be an inspirational teacher dedicated to delivering MSc in African Studies and engaged in enhancing the School’s teaching programmes, research, culture and community.
