Sebastian Sommer (MPhil, 1983)
Sebastian Sommer (MPhil, 1983; PhD Ludwig Maximillian Universität Munich) passed away in October 2021 in Germany. He leaves behind his wife, Mary Wong-Sommer (MPhil, 1983) and their three children, Jonathan, Kathryn, and Andrew.
Sebastian was Chief Archaeologist for the State of Bavaria and Chairman of the Deutsche Limeskommission. He led the efforts to inscribe the Danube Limes as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which he saw come to fruition before his untimely death from a serious illness. Sebastian, a warm and caring friend, was a founding member of St. Antony’s Boat Club; he was crucial to its fortunes and rowed fours for the College at Henley.
