Freedom of information
The Freedom of Information Act requires every public authority to have a publication scheme. This page is based on the latest guidance issued by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and sets out what information the College publishes or intends to publish, how the information can be accessed and whether or not a charge will be made for it.
The Information Officer is responsible for maintaining the scheme on behalf of the College.
The purpose of the scheme is to give a clear indication of which College publications are routinely accessible, so that the public can be informed as far as reasonably possible of the purpose and nature of College activities, and to assist in developing a greater culture of openness in general.
Almost all of the information is available on our website and signposted through appropriate links below. This information can be read on or downloaded from the website free of charge.
It is important to us that this Publication Scheme meets your needs. If you find the scheme difficult to understand, please let us know. We also welcome suggestions as to how the scheme might be improved. Any questions, comments, or complaints about this scheme should be sent in writing to the College’s Information Officer:
Tanya Baldwin, St Antony’s College, 62 Woodstock Road, Oxford OX2 6JF
Information that falls into the following categories is not published as part of this scheme:
- Information that the College does not hold
- Information that is exempt from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act or Environmental Information Regulations
- Information that is archived, out-of-date or otherwise inaccessible
- Information that would be impractical or resource intensive to prepare for routine release.
The College reserves the right to make a small charge for printed copies of documents, to cover administrative costs.
If you would like this scheme, or any of the information it covers, in a more accessible format, please contact the Information Officer to discuss additional ways in which the information may be made available to you.
The copyright in this publication scheme and its contents is reserved to St Antony’s College.
Who we are and what we do
St Antony’s, like many the colleges of the University of Oxford, is an English charity registered with the Charity Commission.
The formal constitution of the College is set out in our Charter, Statutes and By-Laws. Our purpose is to promote international understanding in a complex world. We do this by providing support and facilities to our 550 graduate students, by working with our Regional Study Centres and our Academic Visitors to share and disseminate our work, and by enabling our senior academics (our Governing Body Fellows) in their research endeavour. Our academic focus is on international relations, economics, policies, history, anthropology and global and area students.
Information about our Trustee Board and our governance structures is available on the Governance page of our website.
What we spend and how we spend it
Financial information relating to income, expenditure, assets, and liabilities is published in the College’s Annual Report, where you can read the financial review and financial statements.
Salaries for College staff are in accordance with University of Oxford salary scales. Governing Body Fellows receive a small Housing Allowance from the College but are normally otherwise remunerated by the University.
Charges for students – such as rent per type of accommodation and the cost of meals in the Dining Hall – are available on our website.
Information about our fundraising activities is available on our ‘Support St Antony’s’ page.
What our priorities are and how we are doing
Our Vision and Mission 2022-27 are available on our purpose, mission and vision webpage.
We report against our Mission annually in our Annual Report.
As a constituent College of the University of Oxford, the College’s priorities and future plans are determined in the context of those of the University. To facilitate this the College is represented at the Conference of Colleges by its Warden.
How we make decisions
The Governing Body makes decisions concerning all strategic and policy matters, supported by the Management Executive Team.
The Management Executive Team also has oversight of operational matters, in which it is supported by College staff.
Decisions are made in the context of intercollegiate policy decisions agreed amongst the Conference of Colleges and of the overall structure and governance of the central University.
Our policies and procedures
Many policies and procedures are available on our website, at College Policies – St Antony’s (ox.ac.uk) and in the Student Handbook.
Some policies and procedures, such as the Staff Handbook, are available on the College SharePoint site (Single Sign-On required).
Lists and registers
The College holds a Register of Interests of all Trustees and Senior Administrative Officers (updated annually), as well as registers of testing and inspection (e.g. legionella testing, etc), an Information Process Register and Register of Processing Activity. Some of this information may only be available in hard copy.
