Libraries and Archives
St Antony’s is home to several libraries and archives that reflect the academic interests of members of the College.
St Antony’s College Library and Archives
Collections: The College Library provides core teaching materials on subjects studied by substantial numbers of members, excluding topics covered by specialist libraries on site.
The library also provides access to institutional records and holds a small collection of private papers relating to twentieth-century Europe. The papers of Sir John Wheeler-Bennett are of particular importance.

Specialist libraries and archives at St Antony’s
African Studies Centre Library
Collections: This library houses a specialist collection of African studies books and periodicals for on-site use only.
Location: African Studies Centre, 13 Bevington Road
Access:
- Usually open to African Studies Centre students and staff only

Bodleian Japanese Library
Collections: This library holds the University’s principal collections on Japan in the humanities and social sciences.
Location: Nissan Institute

Bodleian Latin American Centre Library
Collections: This library holds a specialist lending collection for those studying Latin American politics, economics and social sciences. It also has an extensive history collection, focused in particular on the twentieth century.

Middle East Centre (MEC) Archive
Collections: The Middle East Centre Archive preserves papers and photographs relating to people who lived or worked in the Middle East from 1800 to the present day. It has especially strong collections on the Palestine Mandate and on Oman in the 1970s.

Middle East Centre (MEC) Library
Collections: This library supports the study of the modern Middle East. The collection covers the history, politics, and societies of Arab countries, as well as Turkey, Iran, and Israel, from the late 17th century to the present day.

Access:

- New members must register before their first visit (email meclibrary@sant.ox.ac.uk to make an appointment)
- Open Monday-Thursday, 9.00am-5.00pm
- Open Friday, 9.00am-4.30pm
- May be closed for short periods outside term time (please check the Library’s webpage for details of upcoming closures)
Russian and Eurasian Studies Centre (RESC) Library
Collections: This library’s collections consist largely of Russian-language material on Russian and Soviet politics and history.
Location: Old Main Building
Access:
- Open mainly to Russian and East European Studies (REES) students and staff and Centre affiliates
Timothy Garton Ash Library
Collections: This library contains a personal collection built by Timothy Garton Ash between the 1970s and the 2020s. The collection focuses on modern European history and politics, especially political thought, liberalism, free speech, capitalism, democracy, and diversity.
Location: European Studies Centre (ESC), 70 Woodstock Road
Access:
- Open to specialist researchers, including graduate students who are members of the University
