Short bio note for Dr Porter and Prof Tripp:

    Venetia Porter is a senior curator at the British Museum responsible for the collections of Islamic and Contemporary Middle East art and lead curator for the Albukhary Foundation gallery of the Islamic World. Her research and publications range from Yemeni history through Arabic inscriptions and amulets to contemporary art. She is currently working on a book about the museum’s collection of modern and contemporary Middle Eastern art. 

    Charles Tripp is Professor Emeritus of Politics with reference to the Middle East and North Africa, at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London and a Fellow of the British Academy. His most recent book is The Power and the People: Paths of Resistance in the Middle East (Cambridge, 2013). He is presently working on a study of the emergence of the public and the rethinking of republican ideals in Tunisia.
