James Kleinfeld is an investigative journalist at Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit. In 2016, he spent five months undercover as a pro-Israel advocate for the ‘Lobby USA’ series. His latest work has looked at the far-right in France, and at corruption in Namibia. Kleinfeld graduated with a degree in French from Keble College, Oxford.

ABSTRACT:

Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit's “The Lobby USA” uncovers espionage and smear campaigns by the State of Israel and its American proxies - the network of pro-Israel lobby groups which Kleinfeld, an undercover reporter, infiltrates with a hidden camera. The result of a five month undercover operation, the four-part series reveals some uncomfortable truths about the reach of Israeli government influence in American political life. In its attempts to thwart the growing Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement, the US Israel Lobby spies on activists and smears them as anti-semites. The series also reveals potentially illegal campaign fundraising activities by AIPAC, as well as the flaunting of foreign-agent registration requirements by the Foundation for the Defence of Democracies, a prominent DC neoconservative think tank.
