Professor Suranjan Das is currently the vice-chancellor of Adamas University, Kolkata, and honorary director of the Netaji Institute for Asian Studies, Kolkata. He is also an honorary professor at the University of Exeter, UK. He was previously vice-chancellor of the University of Calcutta and Jadavpur University, and a distinguished fellow of the Australia–India Institute at the University of Melbourne.
Professor Das was a member of the University Grants Commission, Government of India, and president of the Association of Indian Universities, and continues to be associated with policy-formulating bodies for higher education in India. A recipient of national and international academic honours, he has held visiting appointments at institutions of higher learning in Europe and the USA, and remains a member of India’s official and semi-official academic delegations to countries around the world.
