Allan Taylor Art & Photography Competition (Trinity Term 2026)
Terms and conditions
1. Overview
The Allan Taylor Art & Photography Competition celebrates the creativity of the St Antony’s College student community. It offers an opportunity to showcase work in a shared College space and contribute to a vibrant and welcoming environment. The competition has been made possible thanks to the generosity of a donation from Allan Taylor.
2. Eligibility
- The competition is open to current students of St Antony’s College only.
- Entrants may submit one original artwork or one original photograph.
3. Theme
- The theme for this year’s competition is: ‘Unapologetically global’.
4. Submission requirements
- Entries must be submitted via the online form. Only entries submitted via the online form will be accepted.
- For artwork submissions:
- All media is welcome, provided the work can be displayed on a wall, display board or easel (eg painting, drawing, print, textiles, wall-mounted mixed media).
- Freestanding sculpture, floor-based installation, and media requiring equipment cannot be accommodated.
- A photograph of the work should be submitted initially.
- If shortlisted, entrants will be required to provide the original physical piece for display (see Section 8).
- For photography submissions:
- Initial entries should be submitted as lower-resolution images (maximum 5MB).
- If shortlisted, entrants must provide a high-resolution version suitable for large-scale printing (see Section 8).
- All work must be:
- The entrant’s own original creation.
- Not created, in whole or in part, using AI-generated content or tools.
5. Key dates
- Submissions open: 1 May 2026.
- Submission deadline: 25 May 2026.
Shortlisted entrants will be contacted shortly after the deadline and must be able to provide their work to the College within the requested timeframe for printing, framing, and installation (see Section 8).
6. Judging and prizes
- Entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges appointed by the Warden.
- Shortlisted works will:
- Be displayed in the Hilda Besse Building.
- Be included in a celebratory High Table event on 18 June 2026, where winners will be announced.
- Two overall winners (one in art, one in photography and digital art) will each receive a £100 prize.
7. Use of submitted work
In the course of submitting an entry, entrants grant St Antony’s College a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, publish, and share their work in any media for College purposes, including (but not limited to) communications, marketing, events, and publications.
8. Display and production
- Shortlisted entrants will be required to provide materials for display by 12 June 2026:
- Artwork: the original physical piece must be delivered to the College.
- Photography: a high-resolution digital file must be submitted to the Communications Manager at communications@sant.ox.ac.uk via WeTransfer.
- Photography technical specification (for shortlisted entrants):
- Minimum dimensions: at least 3000 pixels on the shortest side.
- File format: JPEG or TIFF.
- Files must be of sufficient quality for large-scale printing.
- The College may ask for the image to be provided at a specific size when it is decided where the image will be displayed.
- The College will cover the costs of printing, framing, and display for shortlisted works.
- Entrants are responsible for:
- Ensuring submitted files meet the required specifications.
- Delivering physical works to the College by the stated deadline.
- The College is not responsible for postage or transport costs associated with delivering physical works.
9. Responsibility and permissions
- Before any artwork is accepted for display, shortlisted entrants will be required to complete an art loan agreement form. Contact details, arrangements for delivery and collection, and the duration of the loan must be specified at this point.
- Works selected for display are expected to remain in place until Trinity Term 2027. However, shorter loan periods may be considered and the College will reserve the right to relocate works if necessary.
- Entrants must ensure they hold all necessary rights to the submitted work.
- Submissions must not infringe the rights of any third party.
10. Notification and publicity
- Shortlisted entrants will be contacted directly via email by the Warden.
- Shortlisted entrants will then be announced via the College website and social media.
- Winners will be announced by the Warden at a celebratory High Table dinner on 18 June 2026.
11. General
- The College reserves the right to:
- Disqualify entries that do not meet these terms.
- Make reasonable amendments to the competition or timeline where necessary.
