Academic Visitors

An affiliation to the College as an Academic Visitor offers the opportunity to fulfil a specific research objective within the college’s fields of interest. If you are interested in becoming an Academic Visitor, please take a look at the FAQs below, or contact our Memberships Manager on memberships@sant.ox.ac.uk.

Frequently Asked Questions

To apply for an Academic Visitor affiliation you first need to identify a sponsor, as your application must be supported by a current Governing Body Fellow of the College. A list of Fellows and their research interests may be found here. You are welcome to contact the Memberships Manager (memberships@sant.ox.ac.uk) directly to make an application and/or liaise with her regarding sponsorship.

Once a sponsor has been identified and confirmed, please send the Memberships Manager a brief CV/résumé, your research proposal (maximum two pages) outlining your plans for your stay at St Antony’s College, and the dates of your planned visit. A College Committee considers applications three to four times a term. Nominations for membership must reach a College Committee four months before the proposed start date if a visa is required.

Academic Visitors play an important part in the academic and social life of the College and need to be onsite as much as possible to maximise the most of their stay.

An affiliation entitles you to the use of the academic, catering and all Common Room facilities of the College. You will be issued with a University card and will have a College email address. The University card gives you access to the Bodleian Libraries at Oxford.

Academic Visitors are invited to the termly College Members’ drinks reception and dinner and also the annual Members’ Forum. The Forum offers an opportunity to hear from a small number of speakers on their fascinating work and research. Both events are exclusively for College Members to come together, connect and enjoy the delights of College hospitality. There are no costs involved with attending these events.

Academic Visitors are charged to the nearest quarter they are affiliated to the College. The charge is currently £1,050 per quarter and £4,200 for the year.

This depends on availability for the period you are attached. As a College Member you can apply for accommodation through our Accommodation and Conference Office: accommodation@sant.ox.ac.uk.
