Accommodation

We can accommodate over 250 students on-site or very close to the college campus, which makes for a thriving academic and social hub. The college offers single rooms, as well as options for those with partners or families.

Accommodation options

We offer a range of single rooms banded by grade and some accommodation options for couples and families. You can apply for either a single room or a double room/studio/flat, but it is not possible to apply for both types. The majority of accommodation is located on campus (in the Ghassan Shaker, Gateway & Founders Buildings) or near campus in converted Victorian houses. Most accommodation is available for either a 38 week or 50 week tenancy. The exception is en-suite rooms, which are only available for 38 weeks.

The majority of accommodation is on site, with 104 en-suite rooms in the Founder’s Building, and the Ghassan Shaker and Gateway Buildings. Further rooms are located on site, or very close by, in converted Victorian houses with communal kitchens and bathrooms; some of these rooms have washbasins.

All rooms are furnished and the average room includes:

•            A single bed with mattress protector

•            Desk, desk light and chair

•            Wardrobe space

The rooms on site all have wi-fi access and an Ethernet connection.

As with most Oxford Colleges, St Antony’s College is unable to offer accommodation to all students who would like to live in. Accommodation is allocated in the following order of priorities:

  1. Students with a disability that impacts on their living needs (medical evidence is required)
  2. Students awarded a St Antony’s College scholarship
  3. Students who are not ordinarily resident in the UK and have not studied at a UK university in the 2023-24 academic year

Students meeting priority 1 are guaranteed an offer of a room for the duration of their course. Students meeting priority 2 are guaranteed a room for the 2024-25 academic year. Unfortunately, we are unable to take into account any criteria (e.g. of a personal or financial nature) other than that listed in the priorities above when allocating accommodation. This is to ensure fairness to all students in the allocation process.

You should expect to hear the outcome of the accommodation ballot by early July. St Antony’s College tries to assign accommodation according to an applicant’s preference, but if your first choice room is not available, we may offer you an alternative type or grade of room. For further information about how to apply for College accommodation, please visit our prospective students page.

University Accommodation

College accommodation is not guaranteed for students who do not meet the criteria for priorities 1 and/or 2 in the accommodation ballot and it would be advisable to consider alternative options early in case your application is unsuccessful.

The Graduate Accommodation Office at the University of Oxford manage rooms, flats and houses in and around the City Centre for graduates. Summertown House is located close to St Antony’s College and is convenient for shops and amenities, while Castle Mill is popular with our MBA students as it is located close to the Said Business School. You are welcome to apply for University accommodation while you are awaiting the outcome of your application for College accommodation.

Private Accommodation

The Studentpad website has a useful search engine for finding private properties and rooms. You could also try independent search engines (such as Dailyinfo) or one of the many commercial letting agents operating in Oxford. Examples include:

Please note that St Antony’s College does not specifically recommend any of the above institutions or agents. You must ensure that you are clear about the terms, conditions and fees for your potential private accommodation. Oxford City Council runs a Landlord Accreditation Scheme and publishes a list of accredited landlords and letting agents.
