Corporate Tax at a Global Level: Fiscal Coordination and Redistribution
Professor Valpy Fitzgerald (Emeritus Professor of International Development Finance at the Oxford Department of International Development, University of Oxford, and Emeritus Fellow of St Antony’s College) in discussion with Dr Rodrigo Cubero (DPhil Economics 1997) on ‘Corporate Tax at a Global Level: Fiscal Coordination and Redistribution’.
Valpy Fitzgerald joined in 1992 what was then Queen Elizabeth House, which he helped transform into the Oxford Department of International Development. He was, amongst others, Director of its Finance ad Trace Policy Research Centre as well as Head of Department. He retired in 2014. Previously, he was Professor of Development Economics at the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague and during the 1980s, Valpy served as economic advisor to the Government of Nicaragua.
His current research interests include the reform of international taxation, the macroeconomics of income inequality, and the long-run economic history of Latin America. Valpy is currently Commissioner of the Independent Commission for the Reform of International Corporate Taxation
Rodrigo Cubero was until 7 May the 2022 the President of the Central Bank of Costa Rica. Previously, he worked at the International Monetary Fund, where he occupied several positions as economist, senior economist and Deputy Division Chief. He was in charge of IMF training for Western Hemisphere countries, mission chief for Bangladesh and Maldives, and team member for Costa Rica, El Salvador, New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore.
His doctoral research focused on the macroeconomic effects of inward foreign direct investment for Costa Rica. Valpy was his supervisor.
