Below are the answers to some frequently asked questions on college finance-related matters.
Battels refer to your account with the College. It is a record of the fees and charges that students are liable to pay. This may include course fees, college deposit, college community charge, accommodation (rent) and other charges that could be incurred during the year.
Michaelmas Term battels are issued via email at the end of September. Due to the billing process, we are unable to issue individual statements any earlier.
The first battels statement is due for payment no later than the end of the first week of Michaelmas Term. For Michaelmas Term 2025, this falls on Saturday 18 October 2025.
Yes, so long as the College receives the full amount by the due date, you can make multiple payments if necessary.
Yes, you may pay before you arrive if you wish. You must quote your full name as your payment reference. If this information is missing, we will not be able to link the payment to your battels account once it is active. Please be aware, you may be charged an administrative fee to make an international transfer. It is your responsibility to ensure you send the funds to the correct college bank account. Sponsor invoices are usually issued in early October. We understand sponsors may need longer to facilitate payments. As such, we can arrange short extension to the payment deadlines with the sponsor to accommodate this.
We are only able to consider payment plans for students in the first year of their studies if they are in receipt of a government loan or scholarship that is paid to them in instalments. Completing the financial declaration and accepting your college place was your opportunity to carefully consider the financial commitment you are entering into. It was also an opportunity to take full responsibility for it. If you cannot pay your fees and living costs, you will not normally be able to continue your studies.
