Smart heating guide

At St Antony’s College, we are committed to improving our sustainability and reducing our environmental impact. Most of our heating comes from burning natural gas, so we are trying to use heating more efficiently. Some of the main ways heat is wasted is by setting room temperatures too high and heating empty rooms. We need help from our students, staff, and Fellows to use energy efficiently.

Smart heating by Ecosync (Roommate) is installed to help save energy in these office spaces:

In these rooms there is a smart valve on the radiator. The smart valve measures the temperature in the room and controls the hot water in the radiator. This keeps the room at the set temperature. This saves energy compared to traditional radiators.

You can control the heating through a unique QR code, which can be found on the white Roommate sticker usually above a light switch. If you are missing a sticker please fill out a maintenance request form.

This is what the sticker (usually above the light switch) looks like.

How does the smart heating work?

Smart heating saves energy by controlling the temperature of the room and scheduling when heating turns on and off. Your smart heating measures the temperature of your room and will adjust the heating to keep the temperature stable.

When is the heating scheduled to come on?

When is the heating scheduled to come on?

Office spaces in the Old Main Building, Ghassan Shaker and Gateway will have heating Monday to Friday from 6.00am to 6.00pm.

During these hours you can change the temperature settings for the room. If the room is colder than the set temperature, the heating will come on.

Outside these hours the temperature is reduced automatically to 15˚C. You can override the schedule by scanning the QR code and clicking ‘Boost for one hour’. Boosting will switch the heating back to the temperature last set in the room.

These schedules do not apply to 24-hour study spaces. The heating is on 24/7 in the main College library, RESC reading room, breakout space, and bookable study rooms.
