Sang-Yoon Ma is a professor at the Catholic University of Korea. He was elected president of the Korean Association of International Studies for 2024. From September 2016 to August 2019, he was Director-General for Strategy in the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He completed his studies in International Relations as a Swire Scholar at St. Antony’s College, where he earned a DPhil. His doctoral dissertation examined US policies toward Korea throughout the 1960s, with a focus on the country’s democracy. His primary teaching and research interests include East Asian international politics, U.S. foreign policy, Korea-U.S. relations, and Cold War history.
