Ashmolean loan paintings on display

St Antony’s was thrilled to receive four paintings on loan from the Ashmolean in December. Two striking abstract works by William Gear, Minoan Spring and Landscape Sentinel, now adorn the upper-floor corridor and gallery of the Hilda Besse Building. Leon Zack’s Painting 1958 and John Hubbard’s Above Lyme Bay have been installed in the Old Fellows’ Dining Room.

The four paintings, made between 1958 and 1982, enhance the College’s bold post-war architecture. Their presence offers College members and visitors new opportunities to engage with artworks in everyday, accessible spaces.

The College is grateful to the Ashmolean Museum for its generosity and support.
