Former Alistair Horne Fellow publishes book
Tim Bouverie, the 2020-2021 Alistair Horne Visiting Fellow, has published his book Allies at War: The Politics of Defeating Hitler. The book is a fast-paced, narrative history, based on material drawn from over a hundred archives. Using vivid, first-hand accounts and unpublished diaries, we enter the rooms where the critical decisions were made, revealing the political drama behind the military events. Ambitious and compelling, Allies at War offers a fresh perspective on the Second World War and the origins of the Cold War.
The Alistair Horne Visiting Fellowship provides limited financial assistance and membership of St Antony’s College for a candidate prepared to write a significant book of non-fiction for a general readership. The Fellowship is designed to encourage the completion of works in modern history and biography which combine academic scholarship and a wider public appeal. Allies at War is the culmination of the work that Tim undertook at St Antony’s College.
Allies at War has been met by exceptional praise and rave reviews, and has been described as ‘an astonishing piece of scholarship…compellingly told, immensely wide-ranging and utterly fascinating’ (James Holland), and ‘impeccably researched, elegantly written and compellingly argued’ (Saul David).
