Former student, Katharina Krause, wins The British Institute at Ankara’s 2024 Masters Dissertation Prize

Former Modern Middle Eastern Studies MPhil student and St Antony’s College alumna, Katharina Krause, has been awarded The British Institute at Ankara‘s 2024 Masters Dissertation Prize. Her Masters dissertation, A Matter of Morals. Writing about Yemen in the Late Ottoman Empire (1908-1912), was commended by the Prize panel for ‘its innovative approach to developing a postcolonial perspective on Ottoman history, focusing on Yemen and its representation in late Ottoman writing’.

Katharina is now undertaking a PhD at the University of Chicago as Neubauer Family Distinguished Doctoral Fellow. Her current research focuses on Late Ottoman History and the Ottoman legacy in the Balkans and Southwest Asia and North Africa.
