Joshua Parker Allen awarded MAE-MAT Early Career Prize
Current DPhil student Joshua Parker Allen has received the Early Career Researcher prize co-awarded by the journal Medicine Anthropology Theory (MAT) and the Medical Anthropology Europe (MAE) association. He will deliver the annual lecture associated with the award.
Josh’s winning article, upon which the lecture will be based, examines the political economy of knowledge production in global health science. The work is based upon a year of ethnographic fieldwork in two biomedical, scientific research institutes in Uganda funded primarily by donors in the Global North. The article will be published in MAT in late autumn.
Originally joining St Antony’s in 2019 and completing an MPhil in Development Studies, Josh is now undertaking his DPhil in International Development. He also served as GCR President (2020-2021).
The award lecture, the first seminar in the 2024-25 EASA Medical Anthropology Europe Seminar Series, is on 19 November at 2.00pm GMT (3.00pm CET). You can register to attend the online lecture here.
