‘Allow me to pay for your biscuits’

The 2026 Elliott Lecture was given by BBC Russia Editor and Moscow Correspondent Steve Rosenberg. The lecture, entitled Reporting from Russia in a time of war, covered such topics as how to prepare a question for Vladimir Putin at a Moscow press conference, how to deal with insults from Russian commentators, contrasted with friendly and generous ‘on the ground’ reactions and conversations in Russian shops (e.g. the man who insisted on paying for Mr Rosenberg’s biscuits in a supermarket).
