Self-Respect Movement & Its Legacies Conference

The 2 day Self Respect Movement & Its Legacies Conference took place on Thursday 4 & Friday 5 September in the Nissan Lecture Theatre, St Antony’s College. Featured twenty-one speakers from across the world who presented papers covering a wide range of discussions on politics, caste, selfhood, inheritance, memory, reading cultures and global legacy. A commemorative address was given by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin and the endnote lecture by Arjun Appadurai (New York University). A portrait of Periyar E.V. Ramasamy by artist Thota Tharrani was unveiled and two new books were launched, The Dravidian Pathway and The Cambridge Companion to Periyar.
