Sino British Fellowship Trust Grant
The Sino British Fellowship Trust Grant is now open for applications.
St Antony’s receives a generous grant from the Sino-British Fellowship Trust (SBFT), which has funded academic exchanges between the UK and China since 1947. The grant is available to support doctoral students at Oxford, who will be in their fourth year of study in 2026-27 and are doing research on China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau in any Social Science or Humanities subject.
Grant information
The one-year grant for fourth year DPhil Students is funded by the Sino-British Fellowship Trust and is administered on its behalf by the Asian Studies Centre. Applicants of all nationalities are eligible to apply, provided that they have completed an earlier degree at an academic institution in China, Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan. Grant applications are normally considered by a committee of the Asian Studies Centre, which evaluates and decides on applications shortly after the closing deadline for submission of applications.
Award value
£15,000 per annum is available to award grants to one or more students, depending on the number and quality of applications. The grant may be used for subsistence purposes only and not to cover any fees. If a successful candidate is not a member of the College, they will be expected to move to St Antony’s.
Application
Applications need to be submitted in writing to the Asian Studies Centre (asian@sant.ox.ac.uk) and should include:
• a statement of your DPhil project, including research and writing plans in your fourth year and the expected date of completion (no more than 750 words);
• information about your eligibility and any other funding or grants you are applying for or have received;
• your CV (one page);
• a subsistence budget, noting the amount requested.
A letter of support must also be sent by your supervisor directly to the Asian Studies Centre (asian@sant.ox.ac.uk) by the deadline.
A short progress report from successful candidates will be expected at the end of the year
Deadline
The closing date for applications is Friday 5 June. The grant will be tenable starting in Michaelmas 2026. Please contact the office at asian@sant.ox.ac.uk for more information.
