This page contains information about funding opportunities offered by the regional study centres and external organisations that we know have supported our students in the past.

Eligibility The Russian and Eurasian Studies Centre is pleased to offer bursaries to advanced doctoral and MPhil students of St Antony’s College working on subjects in the field of Russian and Eurasian studies. The bursaries are made possible by the generosity of the Fay and Geoffrey Elliott Bursary Fund and the Archie Brown Bursary Fund.

Eligibility The Russian and Eurasian Studies Centre is pleased to offer a scholarship to students of the Master’s programme in Russian and East European Studies who are based at St Antony’s. A preference will be given to students studying the Caucasus and/or an Islamic theme. A preference will also be given to students from the Russian Federation. The scholarship will be awarded according to merit and need.

igibility The Russian and Eurasian Studies Centre is pleased to offer this annual prize for the best MPhil or DPhil thesis in Russian and East European Studies, in the field of the economics or political economy of Russia and Eurasia, written by a St Antony’s College student. The prize will be announced at the beginning of July after consideration of MPhil theses and doctoral theses which have been examined during the previous year.

Further Details The prize is named in honour of Michael Kaser, Professorial Fellow at St Antony’s College and University Reader in Command Economics 1960-1993. The study of Russian economics at the university was carried forward by Professor Christopher Davis (at Wolfson College) and is being revived at St Antony’s with the appointment in 2017 of Chris Gerry as the new Associate Professor in Russian and Eurasian Political Economy. Eligibility The Middle East Centre is pleased to offer the Hadid Studentship to continuing doctoral students working on the modern Middle East. Only students who have completed their transfer of status are eligible, and preference may be shown to those who have completed their confirmation of status. While students may apply from any Oxford college, they need to migrate to St Antony’s to take up the award. The award will be made on the basis of academic excellence, though preference may be shown for candidates with demonstrated need, without regard to nationality. The successful applicant will need to be in residence for the academic year, and will be asked to volunteer eight hours per term of their time to support the activities of the Middle East Centre during Michaelmas, Hilary and Trinity Full Term.
Value £8500 (for the 2023-24 academic year). Awarded for one year.
How to apply Applications for 2023-24 are now closed; information on applications for 2024-2025 academic year will be available in Trinity Term 2024.  The deadline to submit an application is usually third week of May and the application is a cover letter and thesis proposal, CV and a letter of support from your thesis supervisor to be emailed to mec@sant.ox.ac.uk.
Eligibility The Middle East Centre is pleased to offer the Pachachi Doctoral Studentship to continuing doctoral students working on the modern history and the social sciences of the Arab world. While students may apply from any Oxford college, they need to migrate to St Antony’s to take up the award. The award will be made on the basis of academic excellence, though preference may be shown for candidates with demonstrated need, without regard to nationality. The successful applicant will need to be in residence for the academic year, and will be asked to volunteer eight hours per term of their time to support the activities of the Middle East Centre during Michaelmas, Hilary and Trinity Full Term.
Value £13,500. Awarded for one year.

Eligibility All matriculated Oxford DPhil students in fields such as modern history, social sciences (e.g. politics, international relations, economics, sociology, social anthropology, education and human geography) and whose research involves the study of the Asia-Pacific.
Value The scholarship is valid for two years. In 2018/19, the scholarship was worth £9,000 per year for living costs and up to £6,500 towards university and college fees.
How to apply This scholarship is offered every two years, so will next be advertised in 2020/21. Eligibility St Antony’s MPhil Modern Japanese Studies students going into their second year, or MSc Modern Japanese Studies students wishing to convert course and stay for the second year of the MPhil. Open to all nationalities, though where possible, preference will be given to students from the UK. One scholarship is available each year thanks to a generous donation by Professor J. A. A. Stockwin.
Value Pays for the second year College fee in full.
