Damian Hinds was first elected as MP for East Hampshire in 2010, and was re-elected in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2024. Damian is committed to working hard to support the many excellent East Hampshire businesses, charities and community groups.

Damian has been an assistant government whip (from 2014), Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury (2015), Minister for Employment (2016) and Secretary of State for Education (2018).  He served as Security Minister from August 2021 to July 2022, and was appointed minister for prisons and probation in October 2022, and Schools Minister in November 2023.  Following the July 2024 election, Damian served in the shadow cabinet until November 2024.  

Damian’s areas of policy interest include education, business, the economy, tackling disadvantage and widening opportunity. Damian has chaired five All-Party Parliamentary Groups, including the group on Social Mobility, of which he was the founding chair, and the group on Down Syndrome, which he currently co-chairs.  He is a past member of the Education Select Committee and is currently a member of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee. 

He studied philosophy, politics and economics at Trinity College, Oxford. Before Parliament, he worked for 18 years mainly in the travel, tourism and hospitality industries, based in the US, continental Europe and the UK. 

Damian lives between Alton and Petersfield with his wife Jacqui and their three children.
